Agrobiodiversity Roundtables
What Are the Agrobiodiversity Roundtables?
The Agrobiodiversity Roundtables are recurring convenings organised by NCCI to bring together farmers, researchers, practitioners, community organisations, and other stakeholders working on questions of agriculture, ecology, livelihoods, and food in the Central Indian landscape.
Â
They are not conferences. They are structured spaces for listening, exchange, and co-creation — designed on the understanding that meaningful conservation work requires sustained dialogue across different kinds of knowledge and experience.
Â
Each roundtable is shaped by the questions and priorities that participants bring. No single voice sits at the head of the table. No hierarchy of expertise.

Why Roundtables Matter
Agrobiodiversity in Central India sits at a crossroads. Traditional crops and farming practices carry deep ecological and cultural value — but they are navigating pressures from shifting markets, input-intensive agriculture, changing land use, and climate variability. Understanding these dynamics requires more than data collection. It requires conversation.

The roundtables create a space where:
-
Farmers can share observations, concerns, and innovations that do not appear in any dataset
-
Researchers can bring findings into dialogue with lived realities
-
Practitioners can identify shared priorities and coordinate action
-
Community voices can shape the questions being asked, not just answer them
-

Over time, these gatherings are building a shared body of understanding about the landscape's agrobiodiversity — one that belongs to the participants as much as to any institution.
